The Workshop will focus on the production and propagation of aerosols from regional to global scales, their regional to global impacts and coupling to climate. It will be international, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to a variety of relevant Earth system science processes, cutting across several fields. It will attract science experts from Europe, the US, Middle East (Egypt, Israel, etc.) and Asia (India, China, Korea, etc.).

The regions of interest span a wide swath of the Earth, from West Africa/Atlantic to India and SE Asia, and include both dry and wet regions (deserts as well as monsoon regions). The Workshop will maintain a regional focus, emphasizing high resolution modeling and observations, but will also examine detailed physical processes, the role of megacities, other weather impacts such as tropical cyclones and dust storms, as well as the larger and longer-scale coupling to climate.

The meeting venue is the island of Crete, which is appropriate as it is located in the region extending from Atlantic through the Mediterranean/N. Africa, S. Europe, extending to India and SE. Asia, one of the main regions of the world affected by aerosols. Therefore, it is expected that scientists from Europe, N. America, Middle East, India, SE and E Asia will attend.

The Workshop will consist of plenary talks and poster presentations. A lot of emphasis and plenty of time will be devoted to posters as well as discussion. A broader view of the aerosols and/or dynamical processes affecting the broad swath from North Africa through the Middle East to South Asia and Southeast Asia, and expanding into impacts on surrounding oceanic regions, and possibly teleconnection to other parts of the world will be provided.  As such, the Workshop will be unique and very up to date in the era of accelerating climate and environmental changes.
